And spend their money? After the police were outsmarted by 3 teen-age boys? Would you feel safe, or go to another island in the Caribbean?

It always amazes me that people think just because they go to the islands that they can do what ever they want to do. They are visiting foreign countries with different governments and laws.

If you follow the same rules you do in the states, you will be very safe. Don't flash your money or jewelry. Don't get drunk that you don't know what you are doing. Stick with the people you traveled to the island with. Stay under the radar. Don't travel to areas you know are not safe.

I'm not blaming Natalee (she is the victim) but she made a very bad error in judgement. She left her friends at a bar and went with 3 strangers and she paid with her life.

Those 3 teenage boys if guilty will pay in the long run. You'll see.

It's safer to go to Aruba today because of what happened.)

I've been to Aruba twice, I am Canadian, but I've been twice and I belive that Aruba is a very safe Island, keep in mind that it does not matter where you travel, could be in your own state/province.. and you still have to be careful. And to be quite Honest with you, I found Aruba to be safer than My Capital City.

One time there was a tragedy in Aruba, how many times has there been a tragedy where you come from? it is unfortunate that Aruba get's a bad wrap for what happened there. I understand that was very horrible what happened, but it's not just Aruba. I'd much rather visit Aruba, where you can tour the entire Island and be safe, than go to other carribean Islands, where you have only your resort to stay on or else?!

I went to Aruba and had no problem. I felt safe, its not much there so it isn't somewhere I would ever go back to. I have been to other Caribbean islands and have never had a problem with safety. If a person wants to boycott Aruba then that's on them but I'm not going to stop enjoying my life because of one incident that happened. People go missing from everywhere and things happen, a lot of it has to do with the decisions people make.

Actually I am going to Aruba in two weeks. I have been to other islands in the Caribbean, and I do intend on going to others. Because of the incident that happened last year in Aruba does not change my feelings on me looking forward to going to the island.

I think as long as you travel with others, then there should be no problems.

The Caribbean is safe... Heck it is still the most peaceful region on earth now-a-days.... Just don't do crazy things like going to a bar and getting yourself smashed drunk.... Then not tell even another more living soul where you are going with 3 guys in the middle of the night...... That wasn't very smart now was it?

If Natalee was on a high school trip to New York City I seriously wonder if her chaperones would have turned all ther students loose to goto bars all over the city, ride all the subway system by their selves and do as they please getting all drunk and wild throughout the night???

The point is people for some reason come to the Caribbean and they do a lot of really stupid things. I don't understand it at all.

A perfect example I saw was during a cruise... Late one evening I see a group of guys trying to impress these girls... Now I don't know who tell them to do this.... But the fools looking like they're copying some movie or something were up on top of the railing of the boat balancing over the side edge of the ship.....

Next thing if they had one false slip those dumb fools would have been overboard and out to sea... I didn't stick around to know if they made it down or not... If I had tried to pound some common-sense in their head, by telling them to smarten up, they probably would have cursed me for showing them up in front of their girlfriends...

why not? thousands of people go there every year. these things happen all over the world. she just made a bad choice. her parents also made a bad choice my letting her go on the trip. she was too inexperienced. she obviously was not able to make the safe decisions.

Sure why not.

...and by the way I'm living in another beautiful Caribbean Island.
